Addiction among the military and why it’s important to tackle
Many of our nation’s heroes return home facing invisible wounds. PTSD, chronic pain, and the challenges of transitioning to civilian life often push veterans toward substance use as a way to cope, or can make it even harder to fight addiction. Today, a little over 1 in 10 veterans struggle with a Substance Use Disorder (SUD), with alcohol and prescription drug misuse being the most common. These struggles don’t just affect the individual; they impact families, communities, and the long-term well-being of those who served.
Getting the community involved in supporting those who specialize in this matter can be exponentially beneficial to facilities that are low on funds or don’t have enough resources to go around.
